Hellraiser: Judgment

Hellraiser: Judgment gets a fraction of credit for actually trying something, which puts it ahead of the worst entries in this franchise's direct-to-video wasteland even though it never comes close to justifying the Hellraiser name. The Auditor and Assessor sequence has real inventive gross-out energy and Tunnicliffe clearly had ideas he wanted to see through, but the film abandons that momentum the moment it pivots back to a generic serial killer procedural with Pinhead shoehorned in almost as an afterthought. It plays out as essentially the same plot as one of the franchise's earlier direct-to-video entries, and the connective tissue between the Hell-bureaucracy scenes and the detective plot never coheres. Curious for the opening act alone, but there's very little reason to sit through the rest.
